The context
Everstake is a global leader in blockchain infrastructure, powering non-custodial staking for both institutional and retail clients. The company operates validator nodes across 80+ proof-of-stake (PoS) networks, serving over one million delegators and managing more than $7 billion in staked assets.
With a team of 100+ blockchain engineers and DevOps professionals, Everstake’s mission is to make staking secure, transparent, and accessible while maintaining 99.98% service uptime across all supported networks.
The challenge
Historically, Everstake’s infrastructure was distributed across multiple hosting providers to support different blockchain networks. Each team relied on separate vendors for validator operations, which led to fragmented management, inconsistent performance, and limited scalability.
“We knew that we needed to consolidate our vendor pool, so we began a strategic review across the board. We had to prioritise availability, scalability and security across all of our validator operations, and used these as our main selection criteria.” - Denys Avierin, CIO at Everstake
One of the challenges that the teams experienced was that hardware quality and network connectivity varied greatly between providers, which could affect validator uptime and responsiveness. Each infrastructure provider had its own SLAs and support frameworks, making consistency between environments very difficult.
At the same time, delays in server delivery and slow response times from technical teams could make scaling and troubleshooting difficult. Pricing models were also inconsistent between vendors and often did not match the performance or reliability delivered, which also had a knock-on effect on staking environments.
As such, the Everstake team created their requirements for their infrastructure providers, which included:
- High availability to guarantee near-continuous validator uptime
- Robust security controls to meet compliance and regulatory expectations
- Only Tier3+ Providers with strong SOC2 and ISO27001 reports
- Scalable architecture with flexible hardware configurations for different blockchain workloads
- Cost efficiency and predictable pricing to support sustainable, long-term infrastructure growth
The solution
After the strategic review, Everstake reduced its total number of infrastructure providers by over 50%. This included OVHcloud, where both bare metal servers and virtual private servers (VPS) environments were utilised to power its validator infrastructure and supporting services across multiple proof-of-stake networks.
This hybrid setup allows Everstake to combine the performance and isolation of bare metal with the scalability and flexibility of virtual environments, maintaining optimal uptime and cost efficiency across a globally distributed infrastructure.
Everstake’s infrastructure follows a decentralised and modular architecture, where each node operates independently according to the technical and performance needs of the blockchain network it supports. As such, the high-performance bare metal servers are dedicated to validating transactions and securing proof-of-stake networks, as well as generating and distributing blockchain snapshots to other nodes operated by Everstake and its partners.
The VPS environments are used for monitoring, configuration management, and secure orchestration of validator operations across multiple regions.
Everstake also uses hot-swap validators deployed in OVHcloud datacentres, which are automatically activated during upgrades or unplanned downtime to ensure seamless continuity.
The result
Everstake’s rigorous, layered and strategic approach to its infrastructure now ensures operational isolation, fault tolerance, and geographic redundancy, which is key for maintaining Everstake’s 99.98% reliability rate.
“By working with OVHcloud, we have been able to eliminate our previous performance bottlenecks and operational inefficiencies. The fast provisioning times, modern hardware, and predictable pricing provided an immediate improvement in infrastructure scalability and cost management.”- Denys Avierin, CIO at Everstake
OVHcloud’s low-latency global network improved validator responsiveness, while the ability to deploy reserve bare metal servers in independent datacentres enhanced operational resilience, ensuring uninterrupted operation even during maintenance or network upgrades. This architecture now gives Everstake’s engineering teams peace of mind and agility, allowing them to scale rapidly, respond to incidents faster, and maintain continuous uptime for delegators worldwide.
OVHcloud also aligns well with Everstake’s Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation-first philosophy. Its API-driven ecosystem and compatibility with leading orchestration tools enable seamless provisioning, scaling, and configuration management across hundreds of validators. This automation capability allows Everstake’s engineers to deploy and maintain infrastructure programmatically, improving consistency, reducing manual work, and ensuring rapid recovery in case of node rotation or replacement.
“We had a few challenges early on in the process,” continued Denys Avierin. “For example, there were firewall configurations that initially flagged specific blockchain traffic as DDoS activity; however, these were promptly resolved through collaboration with OVHcloud’s technical team. Since then, the infrastructure has remained highly stable and dependable, reinforcing OVHcloud’s position as a trusted infrastructure partner.”
Everstake continues to maintain a decentralized infrastructure approach, which is a core principle of its operational model, but now does so through a network of carefully selected, trusted bare-metal partners. This strategy ensures diversity, resilience, and independence across datacentres while maintaining consistent standards of security, performance, and compliance.
“One of the most positive aspects of working with OVHcloud has been its rapid provisioning times and transparent, fair pricing, which make scaling infrastructure on demand efficient and straightforward,” concluded Denys Avierin. “Whenever new capacity is needed, servers can be reliably deployed in minutes, helping Everstake maintain uninterrupted validator operations across multiple networks. OVHcloud has had a measurable impact on productivity and operational efficiency. Server setup times were reduced significantly, enabling Everstake’s engineers to focus on performance optimisation rather than infrastructure maintenance.”
