The background

CloudAPPi is a Madrid-based consultancy as well as an OVHcloud Partner, built upon one principle: stay agnostic. The company advises clients — including some of the major U.S. hyperscalers as well as OVHcloud — to choose the platform that fits the job, rather than defaulting to one vendor. That approach has ended up mattering even more as CloudAPPi moves into AI and agentic architectures alongside its parent, Waima Group. CloudAPPi’s scope demands an infrastructure powerful enough for advanced models, but flexible enough not to trade away control.

The company Clupik put that flexibility to the test. As a SportTech SaaS platform, it serves more than 600 sports clubs across 10+ countries, managing membership, scheduling, and communication for clubs and their members, including minors. Clupik started with the OVHcloud Startup Program. As the company scaled internationally, it went through a pivot phase, testing hyperscaler alternatives for specific needs. But its growing club and user volumes brought a real question into focus: how does one keep scaling without losing control of one’s margins? CloudAPPi came to answer that question.

The challenge

Clupik needed an infrastructure partner who understood both sides of the problem. The technical side was straightforward: support a growing volume of clubs and users internationally, without rearchitecting every time the numbers moved. The financial side was a bit more obscure: an SaaS business lives or dies on predictable unit economics, and having variable infrastructure billing works against that, at scale.

"We recommend OVHcloud particularly in scenarios where cost predictability, data sovereignty under the European framework, and the use of open standards are business-critical factors."
— Alberto Vázquez Cabado, CloudAPPi

For Clupik, all three of these specifications applied at once. The company needed to consolidate into an infrastructure that could scale with its growth yet keep costs under strict, predictable control — without demanding a total rewrite of what already worked.

The solution

CloudAPPi built this consolidation around two OVHcloud products: Managed Kubernetes Service  now orchestrates the lifecycle of Clupik's applications and microservices, handling deployment automatically as demand shifts. And Object Storage, used to manage the sports clubs' files and images, decouples storage from compute — so the platform can scale each independently.

A tailored solution was hereby achieved. Vázquez Cabado explains it:

"As OVHcloud's Object Storage is compatible with the S3 standard, the migration of the multimedia data was carried out directly and cleanly, without needing to rewrite the application code."
— Alberto Vázquez Cabado, CloudAPPi

That compatibility, combined with OVHcloud's open standards, became the deciding factors that put OVHcloud above the other options CloudAPPi had evaluated. And avoiding vendor lock-in wasn't a defensive move: it gives Clupik and CloudAPPi room to move or evolve workloads later without penalty. Recently, the team has also begun exploring new AI capabilities on top of the platform, aimed at automating internal processes and improving the experience inside Clupik's product.

The full migration, from kickoff to production, took two weeks.

The result

  • Cost reduction: approximately 35% versus the previous infrastructure
  • Egress fees: eliminated entirely
  • Uptime: 99.9%, holding up during peak-traffic periods such as match weekends
  • Migration timeline: two weeks, from kickoff to production, no code rewrite

The alleviation of the egress fee had an immediate effect on how Clupik plans its finances. In Vázquez Cabado's words:

"The elimination of outbound data transfer fees (egress fees) on OVHcloud's Public Cloud brought immediate relief to Clupik's business model, removing month-end uncertainty."
— Alberto Vázquez Cabado, CloudAPPi

That confidence in the platform's cost stability led Clupik to sign a three-year Savings Plan with OVHcloud, locking in the predictability for the longer term. The budget that had been freed up by lower infrastructure costs has gone into product development, talent, and international expansion into new markets, where European data residency has become its own selling point. Clupik manages data for thousands of members, including minors, across multiple countries. When clubs and federations ask where their members' information lives, Clupik is able to concretely assure them that their data is processed on European territory, and under GDPR rule.
