What is cloud computing?
The foundation of cloud computing is the concept of “as a service” solutions. This includes "Infrastructure-as-a-Service" (IaaS), "Platform-as-a-Service" (PaaS) and "Software-as-a-Service" (SaaS). The cloud itself is a web application, software and resource hosting service that works as follows:
Cloud solutions are available almost instantaneously, often through an API or graphical interface, through which they are automatically activated. This "on-demand" approach ensures great responsiveness in terms of both implementation and usage.
This is one of the key benefits of cloud computing. Only resources or services consumed are invoiced, often with hourly or gigabyte granularity. With this pay-as-you-go model, there is no need to provision or invest in dormant resources.
Cloud computing helps to free users from their previous dependency on physical hardware. As hardware is no longer as great a concern for end users as it may have been in the past, it makes a clear distinction between the equipment used and the service delivered.

Our cloud solutions
OVH offers a wide range of cloud solutions that help you meet your goals, save time and focus on your core business.
Migrating to the cloud
OVH’s Public Cloud is based on industry-standard technology, providing native compatibility between systems and making data imports and exports as efficient as possible.
Devops and continuous integration
A large number of tools are directly configurable for our Public Cloud, so you are able to use the entire devops ecosystem, such as Terraform and Ansible, while relying on OVH resources for software factories (Jenkins, for example).
Artificial intelligence and data-driven business
To meet the growing demand for effective data manipulation and analysis, we offer machine learning, deep learning and big data solutions. Everything is made possible through scalable, dedicated resources and storage capacity.
Open-source is the foundation of our cloud computing platforms
OpenStack is the foundation of the OVH Public Cloud. OVH is an active sponsor of the wider open-source community. We also provide infrastructure for the OpenStack’s CI/CD and contribute to the code, both directly and through feedback. We are one of OpenStack’s most important operators.
OVH relies on Kubernetes to provide containerised services. We are also members of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF), with all our solutions certified as compliant.

What are the advantages of the cloud?
Flexibility and security
The cloud offers organisations a high level of flexibility, so that they can meet their requirements in terms of storage, compute, and much more. Users no longer need to make costly investments at the start of a project, or create provisional medium- or long-term plans.
You can adapt your infrastructure and billing to suit your needs. On top of scalable, secure infrastructures and new technologies, like water-cooling in our datacentres, the OVH cloud offers its users an hourly billing option, so you only pay for the resources you use. Through the virtualisation of servers and resources, your infrastructure can be adapted to suit your needs. You can add and remove resources in real-time, in order to better respond to traffic spikes. By replicating the data and backups present on your infrastructures, the cloud ensures high availability for your data, even in the event of an outage.
Why use the cloud?
By combining hardware and software technologies, the cloud has given rise to a range of different service models:
With IaaS, you rent a hardware-based infrastructure without any need to maintain the hardware itself, or its virtualisation layer. As a service provider, we take care of this for you. This is perfect if you want full control, as administrator, of scalable IT services. It also means you are billed based on actual usage, so you only pay for the resources you use.
PaaS solutions provide you with a ready-to-use platform on which you can install, configure and run your own applications. Your service provider manages the hardware, virtualisation layer and operating system.
With SaaS, you can access your web and software applications from anywhere, anytime, with no limit to the number of users. With this cloud model, you won’t have to worry about the hardware, the software layer or the setup of applications on the server. Need more resources? Your solution is scalable, and your subscription can be adapted to suit your requirements!
