ClickHouse is an open-source column-oriented database engine, specially designed for analysing massive volumes of data. As an OLAP (Online Analytical Processing) system, it is optimised to execute complex analytical queries, often in near real-time.

Unlike traditional transactional databases (like MySQL or PostgreSQL), which store data row by row, ClickHouse records it column by column. This structure greatly enhances performance for aggregation, filtering, or statistical calculations, all of which are common in analytical use cases. With this columnar architecture, combined with efficient compression, ClickHouse can process billions of rows in seconds, with optimised hardware consumption.

This is possible on machines with significant RAM and I/O resources. However, you will need to handle all your database administration and management tasks yourself, so will not benefit from the features we provide in our turnkey service.

Yes, you can do this. If your RAM or storage capacity needs evolve, you can upgrade to larger nodes. However, please note that it is not possible to downgrade to a lower configuration at a later stage.

Yes. Automated backup is included in every plan. However, the default retention periods vary depending on the chosen plan. We recommend comparing the plans to select the one that best meets your needs.

Yes. It is possible to connect your database to a server via a public or private network. However, this integration will need to be configured manually and the database management will be your responsibility.
