Your questions answered
Are Local Zones like edge computing?
Local Zones are a practical, managed approach to edge computing, combining low latency, high performance, and local data processing with the scalability and flexibility of the cloud.
Local Zones enable edge computing by processing and storing data closer to users and devices, within the cloud.
What is the difference between an Availability-Zone region and a Local Zone?
An Availability Zone (AZ) region is a physically separate OVHcloud datacentre or group of OVHcloud datacentres, offering access to the full suite of OVHcloud services. They are built for high redundancy and resilience.
A Local Zone is an extension of an AZ region, allowing you to deploy select cloud services (computing, storage, network). They offer optimum performance and data residency. With extremely low latency, they enable you to bring your services closer to your users.
By combining AZ regions with Local Zones, you can create resilient applications and services to match your needs.
Do the prices of services in Local Zone differ?
No, the prices for OVHcloud services are the same for each location. You will need to assign IP addresses as part of your OVHcloud service; these IPs must be located in the country where the service is deployed. Public IP addresses are not automatically included with an instance.
Are public IP addresses localized?
Yes, public IP addresses are localized. You can have multiple IPv4 and IPv6 addresses on cloud services in a Local Zone.
How does connectivity work in a Local Zone?
Local Zones support IPv4 and IPv6 private and public networks.
To connect instances across Local Zones, you can use public IP addresses and set up your own VPN or SD-WAN overlay. This approach ensures secure connectivity.
Native, seamless private networking (like vRack) is not yet available for Local Zones.
