How do I create a private Rust server?
Rust is an online multiplayer survival game developed by Facepunch Studios. Available as a full release since 2018, it allows you to explore a vast DayZ-inspired post-apocalyptic universe. It also borrows an object creation system from Minecraft. Gather resources, hunt local wildlife and build your own base. Danger will never be far away, because between radiation, tanks and other machines, you will need to assess every risk. A unique and comprehensive game, Rust receives regular updates with new content. PvP mode is particularly well-developed in this game. We recommend playing in groups to progress more quickly, protect your base and attack other players. After its PC debut, the title was also released on Xbox One and PS4 in May 2021 via the Rust Console Edition. If you and your friends want to make the most of this MMO, create your own adventure by launching a private Rust server!

Why create a Rust dedicated server?
Since the gameplay mainly features PvP, you will be joined by other unknown players. Sometimes this can spoil your experience, either because of their behaviour or due to their more advanced progress in the game. Your could to farm a lot of resources one day, then find your base looted the next! Rust is ruthless and requires a lot of investment. Creating a private server with your friends will allow you to progress at your own pace. You will not be exposed to enemy raids, so you can enjoy the adventure your own way.
There are already many official community servers, using mods to offer different mechanics so you can enjoy new ways of playing Rust. But if you find that public servers are missing something, build your own modded server with friends.
The possibilities are endless:
- create PvE environments against zombies
- assemble clans and organise raid hours
- set up a roleplay server for more immersion. Design a character from scratch and embody it. Become who you want: mercenary, rebel soldier or architect.
From a technical perspective, a private server provides you with more features and resources than your personal computer. This is reflected in your online experience, as you gain availability and a smooth performance. You also benefit from effective protection thanks to our exclusive Anti-DDoS Game solution.

Looking for a stable environment for your Rust server? Hosted in our own datacentres, your VPS will have minimal latency and excellent availability guaranteed by an SLA. You can log in at any time. And your bandwidth (between 250 Mbps and 2 Gbps) gives you the smooth performance you need to play with others.
A unique gaming experience
Our Rust VPS solutions come with anti-DDoS protection to keep you from external attacks. They are also equipped with NVMe SSDs. These give you low response times, for a better in-game experience. You can also easily host a TeamSpeak or Mumble server or a Discord bot.
How do I create a private Rust server?
Here is the minimum configuration we recommend for your server:
- 2 vCores (virtual processors)
- 4 GB of RAM
- 500 Mbps bandwidth
- 100 GB disk space
These resources are suitable for games of 4 to 10 players. If your group is larger, we recommend choosing a higher plan. A bandwidth of 500 Mbps is enough to keep your ping (game latency) low. The 100 GB of storage space allows you to host data on your server and create backups.
In short, we recommend our Comfort offer as a minimum. And if you are expecting a large number of players, opt for our Elite range instead. Remember, Rust is a resource-intensive game. If you choose a solution with insufficient capacity, you risk crashes or bugs.
Once you have selected your solution, you can start configuring your Rust server. Start by choosing your operating system. Windows Server and Linux distributions (including Debian) are usually recommended. Need help setting up your server? Check out our VPS documentation.
Install the server step by step:
