Your questions answered

What does the delivery time refer to?

The delivery time is the time it takes for your server to be provided to you. This time period starts once you have paid for your order. Please note this is for information purposes only and doesn’t constitute a contractual condition.

We work hard to deliver products as quickly as possible.

Is my bandwidth usage unlimited?

At OVHcloud, unlimited and unmetered traffic is enabled by default, except in our Asia-Pacific datacentres.

However, the network resources are shared between customers. Bandwidth has a fair usage rule – but this rule doesn’t apply to users who have signed up to the guaranteed bandwidth option.

To ensure optimal performance for all our customers, OVHcloud reserves the right to limit a service’s outgoing public bandwidth throughput by up to 50% if it negatively affects network quality for other users.

Why is anti-DDoS protection included by default?

Anti-DDoS protection is provided as standard across all our solutions. It guarantees optimal security for your servers and infrastructures, for a variety of reasons:

  • A distributed denial-of-service attack on your machine will affect your business, which may cause a service interruption and even financial loss.
  • When your access is saturated, it can have an impact on the shared network, and affect other customers as well.
Which operating systems and distributions are compatible with Bare Metal servers?

Our dedicated servers are compatible with a wide range of distributions, operating systems, database management software and hypervisors.

Optimised versions of these distributions and operating systems have been specifically created to get the very most out of your server and the OVHcloud infrastructure. You can pre-install them via the OVHcloud Control Panel.

What is the difference between the physical vRack private network and a virtual private network?

OVHcloud dedicated servers come with two physical network cards*. One is dedicated to the public network (internet). The other is reserved for the private network. The private network enables your different services to communicate with one another via a dedicated channel, regardless of their location. You get increased flexibility in managing your network, without compromising the availability of your services.

Unlike a physical private network, a virtual private network is a sub-division of the public bandwidth allocated to your server.

*Scale and High Grade servers have four network cards.

How do I choose my region?

OVHcloud Bare Metal servers are available in different regions around the world. We advise choosing a datacentre that is geographically as close as possible to your main customer and user base.

Your choice of location for storing and processing data also ensures compliance with local laws and regulations.

Find out more about OVHcloud dedicated servers

What is a dedicated server?

A dedicated server, or computing server, is a machine that allocates all of its hardware resources to the user. Unlike a virtual server, which allocates a portion of the resources to virtualisation technology, a dedicated server offers you all of its RAM, storage, and computing power. This technology can be applied to cloud computing, while dedicated servers are referred to as ‘bare-metal’. This type of solution emphasises the physical availability of the server’s hardware resources, in contrast to services based on virtual instances.

Which dedicated server should I choose?

Our dedicated server configurations are specially adapted to suit a wide range of professional uses. Depending on your needs, you can opt for more RAM, more storage space, or a faster processor.

OVHcloud dedicated servers also stand out because of their bandwidth capacity and associated services. You can also use our anti-DDoS solution that is adapted for gaming – and our private network (vRack) can be used to connect your dedicated server to your infrastructure, or even hardware RAID. Choose a configuration that best suits your needs.

Cloud, shared hosting, or a dedicated server?

There are two main factors that make a dedicated server different from a cloud instance. Firstly, the machine’s raw performance is different: there’s no virtualisation layer consuming resources on a dedicated server, so you’re guaranteed full use of the physical resources. The second difference concerns the level of server administration. With a dedicated server, you manage everything from its configuration to the data hosted on it, and you are also responsible for ensuring that it’s secure. This means you can opt for a more advanced installation, which is essential for the use of certain business applications, for example. The main benefit of a dedicated solution is the total freedom you get as an administrator. However, if you would like to avoid technical management and concentrate solely on your web project, then OVHcloud Public Cloud instances are the best solution for you. Just need to build a simple website? Take a look at our shared hosting solutions, which offer you a hosting platform at an unbeatable cost, with the configuration fully managed by OVHcloud.

OVH Full Dedicated Server Range

There are many uses for a dedicated server, including big data, machine learning, website and web application hosting, storage and backup, infrastructure virtualisation, server clusters, business applications (CRM, ERP), and online game hosting. This is why we offer several different dedicated server ranges, each designed for a specific set of needs. Our sales and support teams will help you with your project, and can offer expert advice on which server to choose.
