Hybrid cloud use: public cloud services combined with dedicated servers and web cloud.

The background

For more than 30 years, Convento GmbH, based in Neuss, Germany, has been developing software and services for the public relations industry. The owner-managed family business sets itself apart by being flexible, fully committed to customer satisfaction, and developing solutions in-house. Its platform, myconvento, seamlessly connects different communication workspaces together in a unified PR management interface.

A well-structured database with built-in and partly AI-based workflows automates routine tasks, significantly easing the workload. One remarkable feature of the platform is its AI-focused capability that swiftly and accurately analyses vast volumes of articles.Every day, the software screens roughly 150,000 websites in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Convento GmbH requires high-performance servers that can flexibly scale and handle demanding workloads to serve its extensive portfolio. The company is adopting a hybrid cloud strategy, which allows it to harness the power of three different environments: Public Cloud services, Web Cloud services, and dedicated servers for specific projects.

The challenge

The myconvento platform boasts around 2,000 users who actively utilise its innovative cloud-based workflows. Its previous cloud provider was unable to keep up with scaling demands and lacked the capability to autonomously make configuration changes. Additionally, implementing redundant systems to ensure reliability for customers, and ensuring uninterrupted service in all locations was a top priority for myconvento. This requires a scalable cloud infrastructure that incorporates redundancies via load balancers.

Another requirement was bringing operating systems into line. This was crucial to improve security and performance, which meant consolidating Kubernetes clusters within a cloud infrastructure.

“With the migration to OVHcloud, we have built in several fail-safe measures for added redundancy. This will enable us to ensure even greater reliability for our customers.”

Rainer Maassen, CEO, Convento GmbH

Convento GmbH is also working tirelessly to expand and improve “Media Intelligence”, its online monitoring tool. By integrating AI, myconvento has completely transformed its analytical capabilities, providing advanced and intricate insights. To reach its goals, the company needed a reliable hosting partner that could deliver consistent server capacity and modern technology.

The solution

Through its partnership with OVHcloud, Convento GmbH benefits from solid expertise in Kubernetes, professional services, and valuable expert support. Moreover, the quick ordering process for virtual machines is particularly advantageous. With the new hourly booking and on-demand billing, Convento GmbH can now perform software tests and generate reports with greater ease.

“We are highly impressed with the straightforward process of ordering new hardware and virtual machines.
It gives us the flexibility to analyse millions of articles with our software, and scale cloud capabilities to match our needs.”

Rainer Maassen, CEO, Convento GmbH

By migrating to OVHcloud, Convento GmbH can now use Kubernetes clusters to create a flexible and modern hybrid cloud. This also gives Convento GmbH the ability to meet customer requests, and add virtual machines as needed.

The diagram illustrates the various Kubernetes clusters and servers hosted in different datacentres. Thanks to this design, which includes a redundant cloud infrastructure, Convento GmbH provides its customers with unmatched reliability. The load of analyses and database requests is evenly distributed by three load balancers.

The result

Convento GmbH’s main offering is the myconvento Communication Suite, which includes a newsroom, contact management, media database, and a robust shipping system. Additionally, it features the powerful search capabilities of “Media Intelligence” — for online monitoring. This ensures the media, customers, and other stakeholders are all taken into account.  Convento GmbH hosts certain data in the Public Cloud, while other data is hosted on dedicated servers in the private cloud. With the new cloud architecture at OVHcloud, Convento GmbH can seamlessly harness the best of both worlds and enjoy the benefits of a hybrid cloud setup.

The new flexibility is intended to further improve the software’s research features, starting with “Media Intelligence”.  The “DACH room” can employ this online monitoring system to analyse and summarise over 46 million online articles from the previous year to generate informative reports. Convento GmbH recently conducted a study to determine which German media outlets report the most on artificial intelligence, using factors such as extent of coverage, frequency, rankings and quality.

Our “Media Intelligence” service offers AI-powered research and analysis capabilities that sift through data to identify trends in current German media reports.”
