Nutanix disaster recovery with OVHcloud Object Storage
Disaster recovery with Nutanix Multicloud Snapshot and OVHcloud Object Storage
Reduce disaster recovery costs for Nutanix workloads without running a secondary site.
NEW: available from Prism Central 7.5.1
Why choose OVHcloud Object Storage for Nutanix MST?
Avoid data transfer charges
No exit, entry, or API call fees. Carry out disaster recovery tests and full restores without straining your budget.
Remove the need for a secondary site
With Zero Compute disaster recovery, you can skip having to maintain an idle infrastructure. Only deploy computing resources when recovery is necessary to reduce overall disaster recovery costs.
Reduce your expenses with flexible storage classes
Based on your usage and recovery requirements, choose between the Standard and Infrequent Access storage classes to optimise costs. Enjoy transparent pricing, high data durability (11 nines) and a 99.99% SLA.
Ensure your data’s sovereignty and compliance
You retain control over where your data is stored, while ensuring it complies with regulations. Hosted on OVHcloud’s infrastructure, Object Storage meets strict data residency requirements and are certified to ISO 27001, 27017, 27018 and 27701.
Enable hybrid cloud portability
Move and restore your workloads across on-premises Nutanix environments and on OVHcloud. Simplify migrations, test failover scenarios, and move to the cloud at your own pace.
How does it work?
Nutanix Multicloud Snapshot Technology (MST) extends native snapshot replication to S3* compatible object storage.
Snapshots are taken at cluster level and replicated asynchronously to OVHcloud Object Storage, without the need for a secondary Nutanix cluster.
In the event of a disaster, a Nutanix environment is deployed, either on-premises or via NC2 on OVHcloud, and workloads are then restored directly from the stored snapshots. The data is fetched as needed to rebuild the environment.
All operations are managed via Prism Central, with no additional infrastructure or third-party tools required.

Storage built around your retention policies
Set retention policies to keep snapshots for as long as necessary while keeping costs under control.
Choose between the Standard and Infrequent Access storage classes to optimise costs, based on how often your data is accessed.
*TTFB: Time To First Byte.
Disaster recovery deployment models
Nutanix MST with OVHcloud Object Storage supports two deployment models, depending on your recovery objectives and budget.
Zero Compute disaster recovery
Recovery time objective (RTO): usually 4 to 24 hours*
Suited for: development and testing environments, archives, document management
- No secondary clusters in continuous operation
- Snapshots stored in Object Storage
- Recovery environment can be deployed on demand, on-premises, or via NC2 on OVHcloud
- Object Storage is used as the main basis for payment until the switchover. Additional charges may apply during recovery.
Pilot light disaster recovery
Recovery Time Objective (RTO): usually 1 to 4 hours*
Suitable for: ERP, point-of-sale (POS) systems, CRM, stock management
- Lightweight NC2 cluster set up to run on OVHcloud
- The infrastructure can be expanded during the switchover
- Enables faster recovery times compared to cold standby methods
- Cheaper than a fully provisioned disaster recovery plan

Your questions answered
What is Multicloud Snapshot Technology (MST)?
Multicloud Snapshot Technology (MST) is a native feature of Nutanix Prism Central, which directly replicates snapshots to an S3-compatible object storage location. No need to permanently set up a secondary cluster. Snapshots are stored in object storage and used to restore a recovery environment if necessary. It is available from Prism Central 7.5.1 with OVHcloud Object Storage.
