synaigy GmbH is a Germany-wide digital expert specialising in customer experience and sovereign cloud solutions. To run highly diverse customer environments — including digital experience platforms, community solutions, and content management systems — synaigy needs a cloud platform capable of handling dynamic, volatile workloads without compromising stability or performance.

synaigy’s enterprise customers increasingly needed guarantees that US cloud providers could not offer. As a Germany-based company serving clients with strict data protection requirements, synaigy faced a structural problem: the GDPR compliance of platforms hosted with US hyperscalers was a growing concern for end customers, many of whom explicitly did not want to rely on providers from GAFAM.

At the same time, operational and commercial friction was mounting. As synaigy’s business grew, the cost structure of large US providers became increasingly uncompetitive, and usability limitations started to slow down delivery.

synaigy needed a European alternative that matched US hyperscalers on technical capability, offered a transparent and competitive cost model, and could serve as a credible answer to customer concerns about data sovereignty.

The migration itself also posed a technical challenge: synaigy’s existing workloads were running in clustered environments, and any transition to a new OpenStack-based platform had to happen without performance degradation. In parallel, synaigy planned to expand its use of Kubernetes for smaller, more dynamic customer deployments.

Public Cloud with a sovereign, cloud-native foundation

synaigy chose OVHcloud Public Cloud as the foundation for its customer platforms. 
The decision was driven by a combination of technical fit, sovereign credentials, and commercial clarity:

•    A fully managed Kubernetes service, enabling automated deployment, scaling, and lifecycle management of containerised workloads across customer environments
•    An OpenStack-based architecture, ensuring portability and freedom from vendor lock-in
•    A private Layer 2 network across regions, supporting secure and flexible workload distribution
•    Built-in DDoS protection (Layer 4–7), delivering security at no additional cost or complexity
•    Full GDPR compliance with European data residency, directly addressing customer requirements for digital sovereignty

The migration from previous hyperscaler environments was completed without performance degradation. Existing clustered workloads were transferred to OVHcloud, while synaigy simultaneously expanded its Kubernetes footprint for smaller, more dynamic deployments. Over time, synaigy also evolved its platform architecture toward a cloud-native model, progressively replacing VM-based operations with managed services.

Scalable, sovereign, and cost-efficient cloud operations

The move to OVHcloud has delivered results on every dimension synaigy set out to address: technical performance, operational efficiency, commercial predictability, and customer trust. By moving to OVHcloud File Storage, synaigy reduced storage costs by 20% compared to their previous environment with a US hyperscaler.

Today, synaigy operates a wide range of Kubernetes clusters on OVHcloud — reliably, efficiently, and at scale — across a diverse portfolio of customer environments. The platform consistently handles highly dynamic workloads, while maintaining stability and performance.

A key operational gain has been the significant reduction in complexity. By leveraging managed services including Kubernetes, KMS-encrypted storage, and Public Cloud File Storage, synaigy has moved away from legacy VM-based approaches that created overhead without business value.
