Infrastructure locations by region

OVHcloud infrastructure locations

Each OVHcloud location contains one or more datacentres, and fulfils specific requirements in terms of data location, security, and compliance.
This way, you can keep your critical applications and data close to your audience, on a high-capacity, fault-tolerant network infrastructure. A location can be a region or a Local Zone.

Your questions answered

What is a geographic zone?

A geographic area can contain multiple countries. OVHcloud operates in 3 geographical zones: Europe, USA and APAC.

What is a 3-AZ region?

An OVHcloud region is a physical location in the world, made up of one or more datacentres where OVHcloud services are hosted. OVHcloud regions are deployed across the globe, including in Europe, the United States and the Asia-Pacific region.

What is an availability zone?

An availability zone (AZ) is a set of one or more datacentres physically located in a given region. It is specifically designed to ensure high availability and fault tolerance for cloud-hosted services and applications.
Each AZ has its own independent and redundant power, cooling and network infrastructure. These precautions prevent the entire region from being unavailable in the event of an infrastructure failure (electrical, network, etc.).
While offering higher availability, AZs are also designed to provide better connectivity and lower latency across geographies.

What is a Local Zone?

A Local Zone is another deployment model that includes essential cloud solutions to bring services closer to end users. OVHcloud deploys new locations with Local Zones available in just a few weeks to serve new sites around the world. As they only need a simple infrastructure and shared hosting, Local Zones are more agile and flexible than standard OVH datacentres. OVHcloud deploys availability zones (AZ), its proprietary datacentres, or local zones on an international scale in all regions, depending on customer needs and local constraints.

How do I select a region with AZs or a Local Zone?

As a general rule, it is best to choose the region closest to your audience. If you want your service to be available worldwide, you will need several regions.

For optimal resilience, it is recommended to opt for a 3-AZ region and develop a specific design based on several regions and availability zones.

What is a SecNumCloud region?

This is a region with three SecNumCloud qualified availability zones. Since each zone is totally independent, they meet all the requirements of the French National Cybersecurity Agency ANSSI and allow you to build multi-zone applications with low latency between availability zones. Northern France is the first SecNumCloud region for OVHcloud, with our Gravelines, Roubaix and Strasbourg sites.

What impact will OVHcloud regions have on the use of OVHcloud services?

OVHcloud will gradually evolve the product experience towards regions and availability zones (AZ). Other product ranges will soon be available in regions with availability zones, and will be accessible via the OVHcloud Control Panel or API, if applicable.

During this transition, OVHcloud will ensure that all products remain operational, with no changes to customer codes or user habits. We will also maintain API compatibility and keep location trigrams (e.g. RBX for Roubaix) in the new experience (UI and API).

Currently, only Bare Metal and Additional IP products support the new region model. However, other solutions such as Public Cloud instances or storage services will soon be available.
