How do I create a private DayZ server?
Released in 2013 by Bohemia Interactive, DayZ is a massively multiplayer survival game that immerses the player in a post-apocalyptic world. It has regular updates and is available on PC, Xbox One and PS4. The latest update on 28 July 2021 brought new content and a change to the combat systems. In this game, you are parachuted into a world reminiscent of Cold War-era Russia. You must survive in an inhospitable environment, sate your hunger, quench your thirst and heal yourself. And above all, fight the main threat: zombies. Every detail counts...manage your inventory carefully, because any mistakes could be fatal. Stay on your guard. Not only must you survive against the undead in PvE mode, but you can also fight other players in PvP mode, who can attack you and steal your supplies. To defend yourself, join up with friends, build bases and plan your survival.

DayZ offers extensive maps. The fictional countries of Chernarus and Livonia, in particular, offer increasingly rich and elaborate environments. What are the steps for creating a private server?
Here is the minimum configuration we recommend for your server:
- 2 virtual processors (vCores)
- 4 GB of RAM
- 500 Mbps bandwidth
- 120 GB disk space
This configuration is designed for servers with up to 50 players. If you would like to include more players, assess the capacity requirements for your machine beforehand, so that you can choose the most suitable solution. Your DayZ VPS will then be able to handle traffic spikes. We recommend using the extra memory to back up your data.

Install the server step by step.
- Use Steam to download DayZ Server from your library and click on “Tools”.
- Create a folder on your virtual machine's hard drive to place your files there.
- Create a start.bat file. Tutorials are available on Steam to tell you what information to save to it.
- Restart your server, then configure it. As with the previous step, there are official guides describing the main elements to configure, such as naming your server, setting its password and the administrator password.
- Once your machine is configured, you can also install mods. However, make sure that they are compatible; conflicting versions may prevent your server from working.
