Questions you may have
What is Public VCF as-a-Service?
Public VCF as-a-Service is a fully managed solution, offering a shared infrastructure in public cloud format, based on VMware Cloud Director (VCD) included in VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF).
What’s the difference between Public VCF as-a-Service and the Managed VMware vSphere?
The main difference is that Public VCF as-a-Service fully abstracts the network, providing storage and high availability, which allows users to consume the services directly, without the complexity of configuration. What’s more, the offer is based on a shared infrastructure that’s more economical for smaller infrastructures.

What’s the difference between VMware Cloud Director (VCD) and vCloud Director (vCD)?
VMware Cloud Director (VCD) and vCloud Director (vCD) are in fact the same product; the only difference is in the name. Initially called vCloud Director since its creation in 2010, the tool was renamed VMware Cloud Director from version 10.1 in April 2020. This change was intended to better reflect the product’s integration into the VMware Cloud ecosystem, notably as part of the VMware Cloud Provider Programme. The functionalities remain the same: multi-tenant cloud management, automation, integration with vSphere and NSX, etc. In short, VCD is simply the new name for vCD, with no functional changes associated with the renaming.
What’s the difference compared to Public Cloud computing?
Public VCF as-a-Service is based on the proprietary VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) stack, renowned for its security and performance. It provides you with a pool of resources in which you can deploy highly available virtual machines (VMs). The Public Cloud is less specialised, but offers a whole ecosystem of managed cloud services such as per-unit instances (VMs).
