How is my data stored?
Your backups are stored on OVHcloud Object Storage, built on S3-compatible technology. To protect your data against hardware or site failures, Backup Agent applies anti-affinity rules — meaning your backup data is stored across separate physical infrastructures and locations. You can create up to three independent vaults per customer, ensuring isolation between your environments while maintaining redundancy and resilience by design.
Can you explain how a vault works?
A vault is a secure, isolated storage space where your backed-up data is safely stored. It’s built on OVHcloud’s Object Storage technology and fully compatible with the S3 protocol. Each vault provides a highly durable and protected environment, with encryption and immutability automatically enabled to ensure your data remains safe and unchanged.
All information stored in a vault is encrypted by default, preventing any unauthorized access, and immutable, meaning it cannot be altered or deleted once written. This ensures maximum protection and reliability, keeping your backups secure and recoverable at all times.
When the Service is first activated, OVHcloud automatically creates a vault in a region different from your BareMetal server. This design follows a geo-redundancy policy, distributing data across regions to enhance resilience and availability.
Specifically:
For BareMetal servers in Europe, a Vault may be created in another European country.
For BareMetal servers in Canada, the Vault is located in a Canadian data center.
For BareMetal servers in Asia-Pacific, a Vault may be created in a different country within the region.
By storing data in a separate location from your server, OVHcloud ensures added protection, redundancy, and peace of mind for your backups.
How can I monitor my backups?
Monitor backups from your centralized console, even as you also receive daily emails regarding your backup status and flagging potential issues.
What Service Level Agreement (SLA) does OVHcloud guarantee for access to Object Storage?
For access to the Object Storage service, the availability SLA is 99.9% in 1-AZ by default. For further information, please refer to the General Terms and Conditions of Service.
How does billing work?
Billing practices are similar to those of Object Storage (per storage capacity used per hour, billing at end of the month).
