Environmental Impact Tracker
Environmental Impact Tracker
With over 25 years as a trailblazer in sustainable cloud technology, OVHcloud continues to set the standard for industry best practices. This is why we have developed a calculation tool to help you assess and reduce the environmental impact of your cloud infrastructure.
A rigorous methodology
The Environmental Impact Tracker is designed to help you assess the carbon footprint of your dedicated servers (Bare Metal and Hosted Private Cloud) and Public Cloud products (Compute) with precision and transparency. Our approach, which uses Life Cycle Analysis (LCA), is known for covering all stages of the server lifecycle, from manufacturing to usage in our datacentres.

Server manufacturing
To assess the environmental impact of manufacturing and reuse, each component and its lifecycle is analysed individually.

The operational phase
Both location-based and market-based methods are used for each datacentre, in line with the GHG Protocol.

Other emissions
Other lifecycle emissions from freight, connectivity services, and OVHcloud team activities are also taken into account for completeness and transparency.
A constantly evolving tool
The Environmental Impact Tracker is available to all customers via the OVHcloud Control Panel and a dedicated API. Our daily efforts are focused on enhancing the tool to raise awareness among users, as well as offer them the most effective solutions to lessen their environmental impact and help build a more sustainable future together.
We will be offering more options within the tool (Public Cloud Storage and Web Hosting) soon.
In addition to GHG emissions, we will also include the depletion of water and abiotic (minerals and metals) resources to make it a multi-criteria analysis tool.
The Environmental Impact Tracker is the most comprehensive tool on the market, according to the IJO benchmark.

Bare Metal
Our dedicated servers are built on OVHcloud’s bare-metal expertise to meet your needs.

Bare Metal Eco
Our Eco dedicated servers deliver exceptional performance at low prices, combining cost-efficiency and reliability.
An integrated low-cost industrial model
OVHcloud, from the outset, has applied circular economy principles to its entire value chain, producing eco-friendly, removable, and recyclable servers, manufactured its our plants in France and Canada. Our datacentres, often in renovated buildings, are made to last and consume energy efficiently. By managing all the stages of production in-house, we have complete control over quality, and can quickly adapt to our customers’ changing demands.

Your questions answered
Why did the name change?
The name has changed because the tool will be the first of its kind to use a multi-criteria approach. In addition to GHG emissions, the assessments will also take into account the effects of dwindling water resources and the depletion of abiotic resources, including minerals and metals. This means that it will be more than just a carbon calculator.
Where can I find details about the emissions generated by my cloud services?
You can find details about the emissions from your cloud services in the OVHcloud Control Panel or via the dedicated API.
For which products can this tool be used?
Environmental Impact Tracker is already available for Bare Metal, Hosted Private Cloud (excluding SecNumCloud) and Public Cloud Compute universes, and soon for Public Cloud Storage and Web Hosting.
Multi-criteria data support will also be available later.
Can the tool be used for all emissions?
Our approach is based on life cycle analysis (LCA), which allows us to quantify the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions generated throughout the lifecycle of our cloud services, from design to end of service. It is clear and thorough, covering the entire server lifecycle—from manufacturing and deployment to decommissioning.
