Simplify application portability with containerisation
Simplify application portability with containerisation
Distributing applications across different clouds reduces its dependence on a single provider, while making the most of each cloud provider in a “best-in-class” approach. It can also be a good idea to combine different types of cloud (on-premises, private, public) to build your infrastructure, or perhaps even to multiply environments (multi-clusters) to isolate each of your customers. With multi-provider, multi-cloud and multi-environment solutions, containerisation and orchestration tools, deploying and porting your applications has never been easier.

Make your apps work anywhere
There are many good reasons not to put all your eggs in one basket. Especially when you can easily move your eggs from one basket to another without worrying about breaking them!
Mitigating the potential failure of a provider is the most frequently-cited argument, but let’s not forget cost optimisation: each provider has its own pricing policy and it may be smart to reduce reliance on a single provider – which can result in a vendor lock-in when the technologies used are not interoperable – and to use one service over another instead. It may be ultimately useful to offer several solutions to your own customers to meet their budgetary and regulatory constraints, particularly with regards to data sovereignty, or to get geographically closer to their users.
Thanks to the open-source container cluster management platform Rancher, you can benefit from the cloud resources of several providers in a unified manner, with compliance certified by the Cloud Native Computing Foundation, which creates commitments for prominent players like OVHcloud.

Why opt for Managed Rancher Service?
With Rancher’s powerful dashboards, you can deploy and manage infrastructure for up to 1,000 clusters. Your centralised management tool is fully managed by OVHcloud, giving you total peace of mind.

A single dashboard for multi-cluster management
Offer your development team a single platform to import, provision, manage, secure and monitor their Kubernetes cluster(s), thanks to full compatibility with leading cloud and infrastructure providers, not to mention on-premises clusters. Add resources from Rancher in just a few clicks, without needing to enter the control panels of your different cloud providers.

Security
Manage access to your clusters by assigning permissions based on user roles.
Get RBAC access, manage your security setups and easily apply them to clusters.

Secure your image management with Managed Private Registries (Harbor)
To make your container projects more reliable, OVHcloud offers a private registry service, also hosted and managed by our teams, to easily store, manage and access images of your containers (via an API), as well as Helm charts (your packages).
This service is based on the Cloud Native Computing Foundation’s Harbor project, which provides secure role-based access to your teams (RBAC) and relies on a Content Trust mechanism to ensure the integrity of your image sources.
This avoids the risk of identifying vulnerabilities by reverse engineering code in public access on platforms such as Github or Gitlab.
Use Helm to facilitate environments deployment and replication
Helm is a package manager for Kubernetes and an open-source project by the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF). It consists of a template, in a format called Chart, through which you describe the application as you want it to be deployed and configured within a Kubernetes cluster via the Kubernetes API.
This saves you considerable time during complex deployments, and makes it easy for your applications to be shared and reused. Helm is also a great tool for streamlining your CI/CD process.
