The background

Founded in 2004 in Montpellier, Tixeo is the European leader in secure video collaboration. The platform allows its users to join HD video conferencesfrom any equipment or operating system. All while offering advanced collaboration features and three modes of communication suitable for meetings, remote working or online conferences. Tixeo’s innovative technology is recognised by the highest levels of government. The company offers the only videoconferencing technology that has received ANSSI’s First Level Security Certification (CSPN),and has obtained a “France Cybersecurity” label. It includes end-to-end encryption (client-to-client) in a video conference, regardless of the number of participants. Given Tixeo’s high level of security, its solutions have been quickly adopted by organisations concerned with maintaining the confidentiality of their communications and protecting themselves against cyber espionage. The company’s solutions are used in sectors with sensitive activity, such as defence, arms, aircraft, industry, energy, finance and information technology.

With more than 50,000 active users, around 150,000 meetings and calls are organised on the Tixeo cloud every year, hosted with OVHcloud.

The challenge

Computing power and RAM

Tixeo hosts two cloud solutions with OVHcloud: TixeoCloud and TixeoPrivateCloud. Due to the nature of its services and the volume of communications continuously being exchanged, Tixeo needs a scalable, responsive and powerful infrastructure. CPU and RAM remain a central factor when it comes to choosing servers. What’s more, their need for end-to-end encryption requires a private, secure and sovereign environment.

“Our client profile and the nature of our business requires hosting with a high level of security and performance. ”
Sébastien Jeanjean, managing director and co-founder, Tixeo

The solution

Security and sovereignty

For security, administration and guaranteed quality of service, Tixeo hosts its TixeoCloud and TixeoPrivateCloud solutions, as well as their associated data, on OVHcloud dedicated servers. These machines, which are compatible with the OVHcloud vRack private network, provide a secure environment for the members of each cluster to communicate privately. Tixeo retains control of its infrastructure while ensuring the security and sovereignty needed for its activity and that of its customers to run properly.

“For 15 years, Tixeo has relied on OVHcloud services to meet its security and performance needs, maintain high service availability, and maintain a highly flexible deployment.”
Sébastien Jeanjean, managing director and co-founder, Tixeo

A multi-datacentre strategy

To guarantee optimal resilience and service quality, Tixeo is developing a multi-datacentre strategy with OVHcloud. The company is dedicating one or more virtual servers running on physical machines to each client, so that they benefit from a dedicated environment. These virtual servers and customer data are then replicated on the physical sites in Roubaix, Gravelines and Strasbourg. This sharing also allows you to implement a disaster recovery plan at any of the three sites. To complement this approach and strengthen its resilience, Tixeo is also developing a multi-hosting policy.

“By collaborating with OVHcloud, Tixeo reinforces its ambition and willingness to host its data with a company that guarantees data storage and processing on French territory. This strategy helps to ensure strict compliance with GDPR and would not be subject to any foreign legislation.”
Sébastien Jeanjean, managing director and co-founder, Tixeo

The result

Tixeo’s business was significantly changed by lockdown and the rise of remote working. In just a few days, the demand for video calls rose sharply, along with an increasing need for hosting solutions. This required the continuous deployment of new servers and involved considerable resource requirements.

To keep up with this new pace, infrastructure management had to be redesigned from a manual to an automated processes in less than a year, using Infrastructure as Code (IaC). This would not have been possible without a scalable, customised infrastructure.

As a publisher of videoconferencing solutions certified and qualified by the National Cybersecurity Agency of France (ANSSI), Tixeo wants to go even further, by offering its clients a SecNumCloud-labelled hosting package in the near future. This approach will guarantee hosting solutions that are compliant with best practices and verified by ANSSI-approved audit providers.
At the same time, Tixeo is continuing its development of Infrastructure as Code in order to fully automate the deployment process, thereby increasing efficiency.
