MX Plan: Migrating soon on to a new platform

MX Plan: Migrating soon on to a new platform

The MX Plan solution and the emails included in shared hosting plans are being upgraded at no extra cost

Why this change?

Our MX Plan solution is currently based on a legacy technical platform. It has now been 17 years since our widely-accessible email hosting solution was launched. As a result of the technological choices we made at the time, we are no longer able to develop this service any further on its current platform.

We are constantly renewing our infrastructure by replacing existing servers with new machines. It is this daily work, performed by our technicians, that has enabled us to maintain this datacentre for nearly twenty years. But some larger-scale work (i.e. electrical supply, network, cooling) is required.

In order to limit their impact, we have decided to migrate all MX Plan services to Gravelines and Roubaix.

With this migration, we can further increase the infrastructure’s resiliency, offer you a more responsive, webmail interface, and improve both filter management and password renewal.

How will it take place?

First, we will migrate your services with email accounts with contacts and email aliases. We will then migrate services with e-mail accounts with filters, answering machines and redirections.

The admin delegations for your service and for mailboxes will not be migrated. New delegations will be available in the OVH Control Panel.

It is available at:

What must I do to migrate?

No action is required on your part regarding this migration. The migration will be transparent and automatic.

How will this affect the way that the service is used?

The migration will not change:

- The price

The migration is free and the price of your service will not change.

Configuring your email clients

The configuration of your email client(s) will not change. For example, the servers: "" or "" will remain active following the migration.

your email account passwords

We do not reset passwords, the one entered during the account configuration will still be valid once the migration is completed.

The ports

The following connection ports will always be identical: IMAP/IMAPS/POP/POP/POPS/SMTP/SMTPS.

the URL for accessing webmail

The URL for accessing the webmail will not change. You can always use the following link:

The following elements will change after the migration:

Roundcube will be replaced with another, more modern webmail interface. Outlook Web Access (OWA) In this new webmail interface, you can change your password, and manage filters, auto-replies and delegations.

The Kimsufi Control Panel

The OVH Control Panel and the API: You can manage mailboxes and aliases via a new API, and there will be a new section for it in the OVH Control Panel.

The quotas

It will always be possible to configure a quota on an MX Plan account from the customer area. However, this list is evolving:

  • old quotas : 2.5/5/25/100/250/500 MB and 1/1.5/2/5 GB;
  • new quotas :  25/100/500 MB and 1/2/5 GB;

If you have configured a quota that no longer exists once your service has been migrated, we will automatically upgrade it to the next higher quota.

There are currently two delegation types: one for the service, and another for the email account.

On this new infrastructure, these will be replaced by three delegation types: mailbox access, the ‘Send As’ permission, and the ‘Send on Behalf’ permission.

This feature can only be enabled after the migration. With plus addressing, you can create variations of your own email inbox as you wish, with no special configurations.

When will the operation begin?

It will take several months for all of the email accounts to be migrated. First of all, you will receive an email informing you that the migration for your services has been scheduled. You will be sent a confirmation email 15 days before the start of the operation, and a final reminder will be sent 24 hours before the start of the migration.

When it begins, we will start by migrating mailboxes (content and tree-views), as well as email aliases. If your services have filters and auto-replies, they will be migrated after mailboxes and aliases.

If you would like your services to be migrated as a priority, please contact the following mailing list:  (

What steps will there be in the migration process?

Your services will be migrated in four steps. This process is transparent, and will not require any action on your part.

  • Creation of a backup of the data related to your service.
  • Creation of your new services and their mailbox configurations. Operation duration: A few minutes.
  • Redirection for receiving new emails on this new service. Operation duration: Approx. 1 minute.
  • Emails copied from the legacy service to the new service. Operation duration: Depends on mailbox volumes.

During the first two stages of this process, you will not be able to manage your service (create or delete accounts, create aliases, manage filters and auto-replies).

Once the second stage is complete, you can manage your service again:

  • Create and delete mailboxes and aliases in the section dedicated to your new service.
  • Manage filters and auto-replies directly via the new webmail interface.
  • For now, the way you manage redirections and mailing lists will remain unchanged.

During the stage where your emails are being copied, you will be able to use the legacy webmail service in read-only mode to view your emails.

Once your mailboxes have been copied over, you will only have access to the new webmail interface. The legacy interface will no longer be available.

How do I monitor the migration process?

You can follow the migration progress via our website in the “Emails” section, or via this interface:

To log in to the migration status interface, simply enter your customer ID and the associated password.
